Her venue in the beginning was found in the streets of San Francisco where she sold pieces displayed in fishing tackle boxes. Laurel launched her business in the 1960's . She went to China in 1971 and discovered cloisonne' with which she designed paintings and had the designs made into earrings. These earrings, now a part of the Port of Mystery collection, are examples of that creative process.

1950′s Aurora Borealis Crystal Bead Pin

By the beginning of the 1950’s Japan had re-kindled it's jewelry industry and sought to fulfill the growing market in the U.S. for quality pieces of well made jewelry. In the collectable jewelry community, pieces featuring the color red are highly prized. This early 1950's glass bead necklace is no exception. In original condition, the beads have not been restrung. The necklace is secured by a J-hook and bead chain which is likewise in unrestored condition. Original, unrestored jewelry in good condition carries a higher value on the collectable market than similiar pieces that have been altered.
