Laurel Burch Inc. was formed by a self taught artist who found her passion selling jewelry she personally designed and manufactured. Her venue in the beginning was found in the streets of San Francisco where she sold pieces displayed in fishing tackle boxes. Laurel launched her business in the 1960's . She went to China in 1971 and discovered cloisonne' with which she designed paintings and had the designs made into earrings. These earrings, now a part of the Port of Mystery collection, are examples of that creative process.

The Exposition was dedicated for the most part to the jewelry arts. The jewelry of the Art Deco period features modern, almost industrial designs consisting of geometric lines and angles.
