She went to China in 1971 and discovered   cloisonne' with which she designed paintings and had the designs made into earrings. These earrings, now a part of the Port of Mystery collection, are examples of that creative process.

In business from 1945 thru 2000, the Alice Caviness Jewelry Company makes pieces that are distinctive and unusual. Caviness Jewelry was sold only in high-end boutique and department stores and fine jewelry shops in United States, and they were very selective as to who carried their jewelry. Since it was a special line of jewelry with many fewer pieces made than companies like Coro and Trifari, it is difficult to find today, and very collectible.  These clip back earrings are of a color and form commonly referred to as "Fruit Salad" in the trade. A Caviness piece of jewelry is a staple in any well rounded jewelry collection.
