In the collectable jewelry community, pieces featuring the color red are highly prized.  This early 1950's glass bead necklace is no exception.  In original condition, the beads have not been restrung.  The necklace is secured by a J-hook and bead chain which is likewise in unrestored condition. Laurel Burch  Inc. was formed by a self taught artist who found her passion selling jewelry she personally designed and manufactured.  Her venue in the beginning was found in the streets of San Francisco where she sold pieces displayed in fishing tackle boxes.  Laurel launched her business in the 1960's . She went to China in 1971 and discovered   cloisonne' with which she designed paintings and had the designs made into earrings. These earrings, now a part of the Port of Mystery collection, are examples of that creative process.
